Team Roster

Shawn Hauser

Last season was officially 20 years of racing mountain bikes in the Midwest…..wow, that kind of means I am sort of but not really old?  I have been thru a lot of bikes over the years and ridden for a lot of teams, all which have contributed to where we are now…..The Titletown Flyers.  The Flyers are kind of like my dream come true in the cycling world, a lot of years thinking about it and going back and forth…….and it could not have turned out any better.  I love this team, the people, the look of the kits, the success and dedication of the whole group…..just perfect and exactly how I imagined, thanks to all of you!

Racing….I have had some good years and some bad years, in cycling it is all about how much time you put on the bike and how well you rest the body!  Plain and simple.  In 2008 I put a ton of time on the bike and won every Clyde race I entered….a great season.  Ever since then I have been trying to figure out how to get back there with a lot less time on the bike…..hmmmm, not really possible.  These days I race the dirt, cross, road, and now…..the Fat!

Away from the bike, hanging with the family which is usually in the gym, on the diamond, or in the dance studio.  Huge thanks to my 3 ladies at home for putting up with the two wheeler and all the events and rides that I do every year!

Goals for the season?  Keep it on two wheels as I pursue that coveted World Championship jersey……watch out all, the Big Dog is coming for you!  Oh…..and I want to beat Steele, Davidson, and Skinkis every race this year.

Steve Davidson

Steve’s 2011 season consisted of racing the complete WORS series in Sport Single Speed.  He also made his inaugural trip to Traverse City for the Iceman cometh.  Also, cut his teeth on a few cyclocross races including Jingle Cross Rock and Cross Nationals (single speed).

Steve’s strengths are climbing (and using epoxy) and weaknesses are talking too much during races (and before, and after).

Famous Quotes: “26 inch wheels are for kids…and Shawn”

Anders Davidson

Anders is the youngest of the Flyers, making his racing debut in 2011 in the WORS Series Junior category.  He took first place overall in the age 8 and under by racing in all 12 races (and of course the wonderful assistance of his dad).  He was also the 2011 Wisconsin State Champion for Juniors 8 and under.

His strengths are playing Madden on xbox (which really doesn’t help him on the bike).

Kelly Skinkis

Also known as the “K-Train,” you will most likely find Kelly looking for the best line in a singletrack corner using a magnifying glass.

Riding the mountain bike is relatively new to me and I learn, as clearly indicated above by Epoxyboy, by observation, memorization, and planning.  I would say that with my limitations I’m a prime example of “if I can do it anyone can”.  For two years I’ve enjoyed riding, racing, and learning from all the Flyers.

2010 was my first year racing and I did well and lead the series for a while until a crash took me out of the last three races of the year.  (I landed 3rd overall.) 2011 was a rehab year for the shoulder and although slower than the previous year I was forced to race smarter and ended the season 2nd in age group.

Every year I lay out my goals based on previous strengths, weaknesses, and the projected demands from home and work.  For 2012 I am focussed on a new and very demanding job. Although I’ll have less time I still have goals: Move up to Comp, race strong and not end DFL.  The team is great and supports each other with our individual expertise and observations (Read: we’ll trash talk each other incessently). That being said, the only goal that matters is a hat trick every race (K-train, Epoxy boy, and Doc Steele crushing the Big Dog) Challenge laid down!

Much props to my girls for supporting me in my craziness. My lovely wife Cathy who never says no to my bike purchases and my three girls who all smile and tolerate me talking bike stuff. Without them it’s not worth it.

Remember: Train hard the K-train is coming! The podium is a nice place to hang out.

Dr. Marcus Steele

I have been an avid competitor since high school, starting with track and going to triathlons, bodybuilding and now mountain biking.  I thoroughly enjoy the competition, but more importantly the team comradery of the TitleTown flyers is amazing. I have never met such a great group of people and have made lifetime friendships that grow each year.

I have been racing mountain bikes for 12 years.  Over the years have had some winning seasons, some seasons of struggle and some years serious injury.  Through it all I always come back loving biking and racing. 2011 marked by best season finishing third overall in Clyde Sport and winning the Tescobia winter ultra marathon.  I have been racing and riding the fat tire Mukluk this winter and really have enjoyed it.  I have been using skiing and winter riding to prepare for the 2012 season.

As a Clinical Nutritionalist I have used nutrition for a living, for my health and to help support my body as I abuse it each year with racing and training.  I love helping people obtain optimum health and superior performance with chiropractic and nutrition. Doing things naturally is the greatest achievement of all!

My family is my greatest source of strength and enjoyment.  They have been my cheerleaders at many many races and now my 2 girls are racing themselves and having fun with being on the bike and on the trails.  My wife is the reason I am able to race, she takes care of many of the daily duties for me to train and on race day her and my son cheer me on with great enthusiasm, which makes me a much faster and focused racer, thank you Christen and Bug.

The 2012 season will be a little change for me. I would like to do a few WORS races but also a couple more road races, a lot more fat tire races and some cross races. OK same old thing, race as much as I can J.  The main goal of 2012 is to keep in front of the Big Dog and keep Davidson and Skinkis in the rear view mirror.

Special thanks to the TitleTown Flyers for being the greatest team ever!!!

Brian Coppock

Brian raced both WORS and WEMS in 2011, making the cover of the WEMS championship flyer.

Randy Borst

Randy has been “racing” mountain bikes or more accurately called “participating in timed events”, since 1999. He’s been riding road since he was 14, did his 1st century at 15 when he rode from Marinette to Green Bay to get a roast beef at Arby’s and head home. He still enjoys centuries and has done week long rides GRABAAWR and SAGBRAW combined 3 times.

He has travel around the Midwest racing and especially enjoys the trails in Houghton/Copper Harbor, MI where his grandkids live.

2011 season wasn’t much as he had shoulder surgery in July and ended the season with heart surgery in November. While not a weight weenie, on the plus side he has a carbon fiber heart valve, so he hopes to be faster in 2012.

He especially enjoys the camaraderie of the Flyers team. A great bunch of folks!

Curt DeMott

In 1995 Curt was invited up to Hayward WI to check out the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival. There he was introduced to the sport of mountain bike racing.  Growing up as a middle distance, distance runner, this was an easy fit.  He has been HOOKED ever since. He bought his first “race ready” mountain bike less  than a month later. (Raleigh 800)   Since 1996 Curt has been dirt racing everything from the Fat Tire, WEMS,  to countless WORS events.  Since 2004, he has got a little more “serious” and worked his way up to the WORS series Comp level.  He has also dabbled in some road racing.  What Curt finds so enjoyable about this sport is not the racing or accomplishments, but it’s the AWESOME people you meet along the way and the challenge this sport brings.  Being a part of the Flyers is an honor and a privilege.

Cole Jacobsen

When not racing, kayaking, or running, you will probably find Cole with a trail-building tool working on some singletrack.

Patton Neuser

2011 was Patton’s first season racing WORS and 2012 will mark his inaugural season as a member of the Titletown Flyers team.  Patton seems to suffer from the fact that noone has told him that he isn’t 20 anymore, and wearing a skull and cross bones helmet and baggy shorts will not, in fact, scare his competition into letting him podium. Patton is currently competing in Citizen (Cat 3)  but is hoping to race Sport (Cat 2) by midseason in 2012.

Patton’s preferred equipment is a 7 year old bike (can you say vintage?), and despite advice to the contrary, he has decided to put $1500 worth of new stuff on it.  (Patton: we have product sponsors for new bikes, hint, hint)
